Frequently asked Questions

  • What is a cat café?
There are a few different business models for cat cafés, and if you take the time to Google it, you'll be amazed at the results you find. There are currently over 200 in the U.S. with more opening every day! Playful Paws Cat Café will focus more on the "cat" than the "café." We partner with a local rescue partner to find homes for their adoptable cats. Our mission is to provide a happy, relaxed environment for our feline friends so they can show off their unique personalities to our visitors in hopes of finding a furrever family. We want to offer our Central Oregon community a place to relax, play and adopt!
  • How do the cat visitations work?
There is a visitation fee of $20 per person to enter the cat lounge. Visitors get 50 minutes with our feline residents to play, pet & cuddle. A cold drink from our cooler is included for you to enjoy during your session.
  • How old do you need to be to visit the cat lounge?
Children under the age of 8 years old are not permitted to enter the cat lounge. Infants under one year are the exception, but they must be held by parents (or secured in a car seat/stroller) at all times. This is to ensure the safety of our cats as well as your tiny humans. There must be one adult for every two children under the age of 12 in the cat lounge. Children may not be in the cat lounge unsupervised.
  • When is the best time of day to visit?
That answer is definitely subjective (and not always accurate - cats do what they want, when they want). The cats are typically very active in the morning, and tend to nap in the afternoon. If you're looking to play - book earlier in the day, and if you're hoping for some snuggles - afternoons may be your best bet.
  • Do I need to have a reservation to come to the café?
No reservation is needed to enjoy drinks and snacks in our little café space; everyone is welcome to hang out and peek through the windows into the cat lounge. However, if you want to play with and snuggle kitties in the lounge during your visit, we highly recommend a reservation. Capacity in the cat lounge is limited to ensure an enjoyable experience, and many times we are fully booked. We do gladly accept walk-ins when there is open availability in the cat lounge.
  • How do I make a reservation?
Just click on Book A Visit. You will see real time availability for each day and time slot, and you simply select your desired time for the number of people in your group. You pay online at the time of booking and agree to our digital terms and conditions. You will receive an email confirmation for your reservation, and if you need to make a change, you can do so up to 24 hours prior to your reservation. You’ll probably want to arrive at the café early so you can grab a drink and snack while you watch the kitties through the windows while you wait for your session to start.
  • How many people are in the cat lounge at one time?
The maximum number of people allowed in the cat lounge during each session is 8. That number could change, based on the number of felines currently in residence, to give everyone equal opportunity for quality time with the kitties.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
We aim to be a cashless business, so we prefer payment with credit or debit cards. You are welcome to pay with cash at the café if you have exact change - we may not have any cash onsite. All online reservations will require payment at the time of booking.
  • What is your booking policy?
Reservations are encouraged but not required. Walk-in appointments will be accommodated based on availability. All guests must agree to the Release of Liability Terms. Groups or 8 or more will need to book a private time slot to ensure a positive experience is had by both our guests and our cats. Please visit the Events & Private Parties page for more details. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time to get checked in. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your spot(s) could be given to walk-ins. If you need to cancel your reservation, please do so at least 24 hours in advance of your booking. If you cancel your reservation less than 24 hours before your booking, your reservation fee will be forfeited.

  • Do you offer private parties?
Yes! While our space is fairly cozy, we can hold small private parties and events. Head on over to our Events & Private Parties page for more information.
  • What else is there to do at the café?
Each month, we have several kitty-inclusive special events like wine tastings, paint nights, etc. You can check our Events & Private Parties page to see what’s coming up on our calendar. Additionally, we offer plenty of comfy space for you to meet up with friends or work/study while you watch kitties and enjoy a beverage. You’re gonna have so much fun, you’ll never want to leave.
  • Do you have memberships?
Not yet, but that is in the works! Stay tuned for more details.
  • Where does my cat lounge visitation fee go?
Since we are not independently wealthy (bummer!), that money goes to keep the lights on, the heat/air going, the rent paid, and a cozy roof over our kitties’ heads. It also covers extra supplies that the rescue partners cannot provide, like kitty wipes, extra litter, treats, basic first aid supplies, etc. And finally, it helps us to pay our hard-working staff.
  • Is the café accessible by wheelchair?
Our café is indeed wheelchair-accessible! Visitors may enter through the front door, enjoy the café space and visit the cat lounge.
  • How do I get there and where do I park?
We are located on Bend’s West Side, off of Century Drive. We are behind Nome Italiano and across from The Village Baker. There are plenty of parking spots in our lot and on the street, though some times of day are more crowded than others.
  • Do you accept donations?
Who are we to say no to your generosity? If you want to bring toys or treats in for the cats, they would love it. All of the cat food and litter at the café is supplied by our rescue partners. If you would like to donate food, litter or any other supplies to them for use in the café or the shelter, they would also very much appreciate it. You can drop those off at the café during business hours.
